What are the little things that make a home, a neighbourhood, a community, a life…?

Having spent long periods of time away from home over the last 18 months, this was a relevant question for visual artist, Danielle Rochecouste, returning to Busan for an artist residency at Naughty Muse Studios, Songjeong.

This exhibition reflects observations of neighbourhood, community, home and everyday life.

Using a mix of sketchbooks, drawings, paintings, prints and collage, the works take a curious but affectionate look at the last 4 weeks in Busan.

Sometimes “home” is not where or what you expect and there are many different versions of community.

집과 동네, 공동체, 그리고 삶을 이루는 작은 것들은 무엇일까?

지난 18개월 동안 집을 떠나 오랜 시간을 보낸 시각예술가 다니엘 로슈쿠스트(Danielle Rochecouste)는 송정의 노티 뮤즈 스튜디오(Naughty Muse Studios) 레지던시를 위해 부산으로 돌아오며 이 질문을 다시 마주한다.

《From Little Things…》는 동네와 공동체, 집과 일상에 관한 작가의 관찰을 담은 전시다. 스케치북과 드로잉, 회화, 판화, 콜라주 등 다양한 매체를 통해 작가는 부산에서 보낸 지난 4주를 호기심 어린 시선과 애정으로 기록한다. 익숙한 풍경과 사소한 순간들을 들여다보며, 우리가 살아가는 공간과 그 안에서 맺어지는 관계의 의미를 되짚는다.

집은 언제나 우리가 예상하는 장소나 모습으로 존재하지 않는다. 공동체 또한 하나의 정해진 형태로 규정할 수 없다. 때로는 일상의 작은 장면과 우연한 만남 속에서 비로소 발견되는 것들. 이번 전시는 그렇게 사소해 보이는 것들이 모여 우리가 머무는 곳과 삶의 감각을 어떻게 만들어 가는지 조용히 질문한다.
