Between Surfaces is presented as part of Polyphonic Lab: Busan, a collaborative exhibition bringing together 15 galleries across Busan’s Dong-gu, Suyeong-gu, and Haeundae-gu during the Busan Biennale period.
The surface is not only the outer layer of something, it is also where interactions happen and marks are left. Surfaces can be boundaries but they can also be permeable membranes through which things can pass. They can be places of exchange. 
Between Surfaces lingers in this space, not above or beneath it but within the productive ambiguity of the surface itself. The fibres of Hanji, the weave of a cloth, the grain of paper all become the site of preservation, absorption and change. This exhibition is an opportunity to consider and examine exactly what a surface can hold, and to recognise that what we often dismiss as merely a facade might be where the deepest stories are told.
《Between Surfaces》는 부산 비엔날레 기간 동안 부산의 동구, 수영구, 해운대구에 위치한 15개 갤러리가 참여하는 연합전시 《다면적 실험실》의 일환으로 기획되었다.
표면은 단순히 어떤 것의 바깥을 이루는 층이 아니라, 상호작용이 일어나고 흔적이 남는 곳이기도 하다. 표면은 경계가 될 수 있지만, 동시에 무언가가 통과할 수 있는 투과성의 막이자 교환이 일어나는 장소가 될 수도 있다.
《Between Surfaces》는 표면의 위나 아래가 아닌, 표면 그 자체가 지닌 생산적인 모호함 속에 머문다. 한지의 섬유, 천의 직조, 종이의 결은 모두 보존과 흡수, 그리고 변화가 일어나는 장소가 된다. 이 전시는 표면이 과연 무엇을 담아낼 수 있는지를 살펴보고 질문하는 기회이자, 우리가 흔히 단순한 외관이나 겉모습으로 치부하는 것이 오히려 가장 깊은 이야기가 펼쳐지는 곳일 수 있음을 바라보는 자리이다.
