Solo Exhibition by Gaza-Based Photographer Moayed Abu Ammouna

— Documenting Borders, Memory, and the Resilience of Community

Arise Art Space, an independent contemporary art space in Busan, presents an exhibition by Gaza-based photographer and filmmaker Moayed Abu Ammouna.

Born and currently working in Gaza, Palestine, Moayed Abu Ammouna explores themes of land and borders, collective memory, human resilience, and the enduring vitality of communities navigating displacement and loss. For the artist, art is not merely a profession—it is a necessity for survival, a means of recording reality, and a way of preserving truth.

This exhibition centers on photographic works documenting daily life in Gaza over the past two years. Through his lens, Moayed captures both the harsh realities faced by his community and their remarkable strength and persistence. The works invite viewers to encounter a reality that is often difficult to access, bringing it into closer and more immediate focus.

Through this exhibition, Arise Art Space seeks to move beyond passive viewing, creating a space for reflection, solidarity, and a sense of hope. All proceeds from the sale of artworks will be transferred directly to the artist, providing tangible support for him to continue documenting and sustaining his practice.

부산의 독립 예술 공간 어라이즈 아트스페이스는 팔레스타인 가자지구를 기반으로 활동하는 사진가이자 영화감독 모아예드 아부 암무나(Moayed Abu Ammouna)의 전시를 선보인다.

모아예드 아부 암무나는 가자지구에서 태어나 현재까지 그곳에서 작업을 이어가고 있는 예술가로, 땅과 경계, 집단적 기억, 인간의 회복력, 그리고 강제 이주와 상실 속에서도 이어지는 공동체의 생명력을 주요 주제로 탐구해왔다. 그에게 예술은 단순한 직업을 넘어, 존재를 이어가기 위한 필수적인 행위이자 현실을 기록하고 진실을 보존하는 중요한 수단이다.

이번 전시는 지난 2년간 그가 직접 기록한 가자지구의 일상을 담은 사진 작업을 중심으로 구성된다. 작품들은 극한의 상황 속에서도 지속되는 삶의 모습과 공동체의 강인한 의지를 담아내며, 관객들에게 쉽게 접하기 어려운 현실을 보다 가까이에서 마주하게 한다.
