What stories do we miss while we’re living our own?

The city streets are teeming with the joyful, the lost, the grieving, the rebellious. The modern world is a relentless arena of action and distraction.

What happens when we slow down and look at the strangers we normally pass by, or ask our close friends something unexpected?

What new paths can we follow when we observe the hidden rhythms of the city, or push ourselves to understand an identity different from our own?

Through their new exhibition, 《Between Faces》, visual artists Lim Heejung and Niall Ruddy explore these questions.

This exhibition is presented as part of Polyphonic Lab: Busan, a collaborative exhibition bringing together 15 galleries across Busan’s Dong-gu, Suyeong-gu, and Haeundae-gu during the Busan Biennale period. The exhibition is supported by Suyeong-gu Office and Culture City Suyeong.

우리는 각자의 삶을 살아가는 동안 어떤 이야기들을 놓치고 있을까?

도시의 거리는 기쁨에 찬 사람들, 길을 잃은 사람들, 슬픔에 잠긴 사람들, 그리고 세상에 저항하는 사람들로 가득하다. 현대 사회는 끊임없는 움직임과 수많은 자극이 교차하는 공간이다.

우리가 잠시 속도를 늦추고 평소라면 스쳐 지나갔을 낯선 사람들을 바라본다면 어떤 일이 일어날까? 가까운 친구에게 평소와는 다른 뜻밖의 질문을 건네본다면 어떨까?

도시 곳곳에 숨겨진 리듬을 관찰하거나, 나와 다른 정체성을 이해하기 위해 한 걸음 더 나아갈 때 우리는 어떤 새로운 길을 발견할 수 있을까?

시각예술가 임희정과 나일 러디는 이번 전시 《Between Faces》를 통해 이러한 질문들을 함께 탐구하고자 한다.

《Between Faces》는 부산 비엔날레 기간 동안 부산 동구, 수영구, 해운대구의 15개 갤러리가 참여하는 연합전시 《Polyphonic Lab: Busan》의 일환으로 기획되었으며, 수영구청과 문화도시 수영의 지원을 받아 진행된다.
